811. Rathkeale

Seven miles (11 km) from Adare is the market town of Rathkeale, on the River Deel in the dairy farming district of west Limerick. The town and district were part of the possessions of the earls of Desmond, who erected castles here to guard the passage of the river. One such castle, Castle Matrix, has been restored. The castle and grunds are open to the public on request and cater for group visits.
